“I, You and Them” Association Focsani, with the support of the U. S. Department of State and the Public Participation Resource Center (Ce-Re) from Bucharest, have the pleasure to invite you to a meeting with the American activist and community organizer Lew Finfer, director of Massachusetts Community Action Network (MCAN) from Boston, who will lead a workshop in Focsani, belonging to the “Sustaining Civic Participation in Minority Communities” exchange program.
Lew Finfer has worked as a community organizer since 1970, being involved in community NGOs from the American state of Massachusetts, with which he had a great number of successes over the years.
The meeting will be moderated by Silvia Vrînceanu Nichita, Romanian graduate of the ”Professional Fellows” Program of the US State Department and it shall take place on 23rd of February, between 12:00 and 15:00, in the Florentin Delmar room of the Popular Athenaeum “”Mr. Gh. Pastia”.

Mr. Lew Finfer worked as a community organizer with community improvement organizations in Massachusetts since 1970. He has worked with neighborhood organizations, statewide housing organizations, and interfaith organizations. They worked successfully on many issues over these years. In recent years, they are proud of the role they played in the successful campaign that raised the Minimum Wage helping over 500,000 people and passing an Earned Sick Time law that helps over 900,000 people in the state of Massachusetts. Mr. Finfer has wide and valuable experience in community organizing and he is also active in state-wide organizing.

As a US Mentor of the Professional Fellows Program, he was the US mentor of two fall 2017 professional fellows: Vivien Brassoi from Hungary and Silvia Vrinceanu Nichita from Romania who worked with MCAN in Boston.
President of the „Me, You and Them” Association, Silvia Vrînceanu Nichita worked for 20 years as a journalist, being for almost 14 years chief editor of Ziarul de Vrancea daily newspaper. Under her leadership, the newspaper received more national and international prizes that recongnized excellence in local journalism and made Ziarul de Vrancea a true community newspaper and a credible voice in local journalism. Four years ago, she founded the Journalism and Civic Involvement Club „Youth in (re)action”. At the same time, she initiated more social campaigns, associated in diverse groups and civic initiatives where she volunteered in educational, social and cultural activities undertaken especially for the benefit of teenagers, whom she encourages to become more active voices in their community. In recent years, the Association initiated projects dedicated to knowledge, protection and promoting the cultural heritage among the young generation.
About Professional Fellows Program
The Professional Fellows Program (PFP) is a two-way, global exchange program designed to promote mutual understanding, enhance leadership and professional skills, as well as build lasting, sustainable partnerships between mid-level emerging leaders from foreign countries and the United States. This program is a two-way exchange involving 38 professionals from five selected European countries and 19 mentors from the United States who will effect positive change in their communities. U.S. mentors will share their professional expertise with fellows of this program in the United States and travel for a two-week reciprocal visit to assist their fellow on his/her 6-9 month individual project plan implementation, provide consulting and joint workshops. European and U.S. participants will share experience and promote mutual understanding and partnership between professional groups in the United States and counterpart groups in the selected European countries.
